| So picture this: ten glorious days of pure unadulterated bliss, a whirlwind of adventure and pampering smack bang in the northern reaches of Namibia. And when I say northern, I mean the really, *really* northern bit, the kind of place where the wild things are, and you’ve got your own personal five star hotel tucked away in the middle of it all. Forget dusty tents and lukewarm GandTs; this is luxury safari with a capital L. We’re talking about the "Bush and Beach" itinerary, which honestly, sounds like a holiday brochure designed by someone who’s never actually *been* on safari, but trust me, it’s the real deal. First off, the bush. Namibia’s Damaraland is your playground. Imagine vast, ancient landscapes stretching out before you, dotted with elephants that have adapted to desert life – proper tough cookies, these guys. You’ll be whisked around in specially kitted out 4x4s, the kind with plush leather seats and your own personal guide who knows every single ant hill and rock formation by name. And when I say personal, I mean it. My guide, a chap named Jakob, could probably converse with the giraffes. He’d point out things I’d never have noticed, like the delicate tracks of a pangolin or the iridescent shimmer on a tiny beetle's wing. It’s humbling, really, to realise how much goes on that we humans, in our haste, tend to overlook. And the accommodation? Oh, darling, the accommodation. Think private plunge pools overlooking waterholes where you can watch the wildlife from the comfort of your ridiculously comfortable bed. Gin and tonics appear as if by magic, and the food is… well, let’s just say your taste buds will be doing a happy dance. I found myself contemplating whether I could live on game carpaccio and starlit dinners forever. The answer, annoyingly, is probably no, but a girl can dream. After a few days of desert dust and awe inspiring sightings, we’re off to the coast. Swakopmund is where the adventure takes a slightly cooler, saltier turn. Now, while it’s not exactly the Riviera, it’s got a certain old world charm, and the luxury here is more about sophisticated elegance. Think boutique hotels with crisp white linens and excellent coffee. We’re talking about boat trips out into the Atlantic, where seals will literally pop their heads up to say hello, and dolphins might even join the party. I swear one of them winked at me. Probably just a trick of the light, but I’m choosing to believe it was a profound moment of interspecies connection. The real highlight of the beach section, though, is undoubtedly the Walvis Bay salt pans and the opportunity to explore the stark beauty of the Skeleton Coast. This isn't your average sunbathing and sandcastle kind of beach. This is dramatic, windswept, and utterly breathtaking. There are opportunities for quad biking across the dunes, which is surprisingly exhilarating, and more guided excursions, often involving champagne picnics on a deserted stretch of sand. Imagine popping open a chilled bottle of bubbly while watching the waves crash against a coastline that feels like the edge of the world. It’s the kind of moment that makes you feel incredibly small and yet, somehow, incredibly alive. Ten days might sound like a long time, but when you’re living like royalty amongst such wild, untamed beauty, it flies by in a blink. It’s the kind of trip that leaves you feeling refreshed, rejuvenated, and with a camera roll bursting with incredible memories. And, if you’re anything like me, a newfound appreciation for how utterly spectacular our planet truly is, and a slight disappointment that my own bathroom doesn’t come with a complimentary wildlife viewing platform. |
