| Gather round, you lot, and let me tell you about a trip that’s less ‘roughing it’ and more ‘unwinding in outrageous style’. I’m talking about a fifteen day extravaganza through Botswana, Victoria Falls, and Zanzibar. And when I say extravagance, I mean the kind that makes your jaw drop and your credit card weep tears of joy. Let’s start in Botswana. Forget dusty Land Rovers and lukewarm tea. This is the crème de la crème of safaris. We’re talking private charters, not commercial flights, whisking you between immaculate tented camps. These aren't your grandmother's tents, mind you. Think sprawling canvas suites with four poster beds, en suite bathrooms that put some city hotels to shame, and private plunge pools overlooking watering holes. You’ll be sipping champagne as a herd of elephants ambles past your deck. Honestly, the wildlife encounters are incredible, but sometimes I found myself more fascinated by the sheer elegance of it all. The rangers are top notch, too, not just knowledgeable about the Big Five, but also masters of the dramatic pause and the perfectly timed anecdote. My personal highlight was spotting a leopard draped over a tree branch, looking utterly bored with all the attention. I felt a pang of kinship. We’ve all been there, right? Next up, a short hop to Victoria Falls. Now, this place is simply staggering. They call it Mosi oa Tunya the Smoke that Thunders, and it’s no exaggeration. The sheer power and noise of the water is humbling. But here, luxury means getting the best views without the crowds. Imagine a helicopter ride over the falls, the spray creating rainbows below, or a sunset cruise on the Zambezi, gin and tonics in hand, as hippos poke their heads out of the water. We even had a private dinner on a deck overlooking the falls, with musicians playing softly. It was so romantic, I almost proposed to myself. Almost. Finally, we jet off to Zanzibar. And after the dust and the drama of the safari, this is pure, unadulterated bliss. Think white sand beaches, crystal clear turquoise waters, and spice plantations. Our accommodation here was a boutique villa right on the beach, with a personal chef who could whip up anything your heart desired. We spent our days snorkelling amongst vibrant coral reefs, exploring the labyrinthine streets of Stone Town (and trying to haggle for some questionable souvenirs), and indulging in ridiculously fresh seafood. The evenings were spent watching the sun dip below the horizon, cocktail in hand, reflecting on the sheer absurdity of how spoiled we’d been. This isn't a trip for the faint of heart, or the budget conscious. It’s an investment in memories, in experiences, and in the sheer joy of being utterly pampered. You'll return with stunning photos, stories to tell, and a newfound appreciation for the finer things in life. And possibly a slight addiction to perfectly chilled gin and tonics. But that’s a small price to pay for fifteen days of pure, unadulterated, luxurious adventure. I’m already saving up for my next one, just so I can tell you all about it again. |
